Highlights - Alexandros Papadiamantis
One of Greece's best writers, born on 4/3/1851. His first novel was
'The Immigrant' published at the 'Neologos' newspaper (1879). Then
comes 'The Merchants of the Nations' (1882). All this time was also
working as a translator in Athens. 'The Female Assasin' - his most
famous novel written while being back in Skiathos (1902-1904).
Most of his work was influenced and inspired from Skiathos and its
people. Its worth to mention that his writtings are intense and with
interesting twists. Nearly 170 stories were published. He passed away
on 3/1/1911.
His
house was bought from the State on 1954 and belongs to the Skiathos
Municipality and was declared a preserved monument from the Ministry of
Culture where on 1994 the first floor was turned as a museum and the
second floor kept as is. The main street of Skiathos was given his name.
